A woodie at lunchtime, badly cut neck with wet patch all around, presumably blood.
It ate and could fly but sat in the cherry for a long time afterwards with its neck turned away from the slash. I would think a sprawk had tried its luck and given up.
Didn't see it again, maybe tomorrow .....

Could have been fighting or perhaps the unwelcome attentions of a moggy. :(

Anyway, it turned up again today, ate well and flew off. The wound looks sore :(. Poor thing.

The good news is that it is still feeding and can fly which in itself gives it good odds on surviving.

I have a few woodies lurking around the garden at present. One group which meet in the front garden is a three sided love triangle. She is playing it cool while her two would be partners are parading around trying to catch her eye and trying to see off the rival. It is the latter that has made me chuckle as they have been having Benny Hillesque chases swapping roles between chaser and chasee. No violence has been involved but some clever out manouvering as they try to end the chase nearest to the object of their affections. Marvellous entertainment. :D

A movement caught my eagle eye - a young As Yet Uncollared Dove was sitting happily in the cherry tree eating rock hard, green as grass small cherries.
The scary stick was in use very soon :wife:
