Concerned about this one. Seems to be feeding. Sits for ages on the feeder and the water bath. I am not talking one two minutes but ten and more. It may just be a young Chaffie but it doesn't look right. Anyone any thoughts?

I think you're right to be concerned Peregrine. When I see food stuck around the beak like the young Chaffie has I immediately suspect tricho..If it is being lethargic and puffed up those are other key diagnostic points.

That was my first thought. Haven't seen it since I took the photo and I fear the worst. Will need to get the feeders down and have a good clean.

Out with the birdfood this morning, got down to the bottom part of the field and there on a gatepost was a tawny owl. It flew into the copse nearby and started calling. Could hear 2 more calling back. I suspect it was on the post because it is next to where I put food down, and no doubt mice get there looking for seeds the birds did not eat. Great sighting though, and completely silent when it flew off.

Great sighting willpar. I also think your reasoning as to why it was there is very sound.

I thought I was going to have turf wars in my garden earlier. Along one bit of fence were 8 or so sparrows and another had 6 of my goldie clan.
There was a very empty feeder in the tree between them and a coal tit got in while the 2 groups were eyeing each other up.
