Back with the "new" little owls this morning, I'm pretty certain there are nippers somewhere in the tree as they are reluctant to leave it even though the path passes below. If they do they just fly in to the next tree 5 or 6 yards away. A bit of a strange green tint to the first photo which is presumably caused by the foliage between the lens and the owl.
