Re: STARLINGS
Yet again I heard them(The Sturklets) but didn't get the full visit. It may have been that I was giving my patch a little tidy up not that you'd notice the difference.

Now now, be 'onest, we know you have a small army of Rent-a-Serf bods doing the backbreaking work.Jacksparrow wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2020 7:30 pmYet again I heard them(The Sturklets) but didn't get the full visit. Re: STARLINGS
The parents decided its time to leave the kids in the kindergarten (read my garden
) on their own after showing them few things. Its too early if you ask me since they can hardly self feed, but who am I to judge when I'm not a starling
. I've seen them showing them how to dig for worms and grubs, so they try. I see them all day pecking the grass all around and practising, bless them. Of course, they are just pecking randomly.
Then earlier I saw one running from under the shrub (where they love spending time because its safe) with some bug/worm in its beak! I'm sure it happened accidentally that it found it
, and than everyone started running with him/her around the garden, him/her still holding the pray in the beak, not knowing how to eat it and what to do, so they just run around in circles. It was hilarious!
They finally went under the shrub again and I didn't see the end of it, but I guess they managed to eat it

Re: STARLINGS
Great news Willpar

I saw one on the fleglings have an injured leg, its so sad

Re: STARLINGS
My group of starling fledglings are so so quiet these days, which I find unusual
. They spend all day in the Flowering Currant shrub in my garden, they come out of it just to have some food, and than they go back and just sit there quietly, hidden. I've seen them having a bath only once or twice. Adults hardly ever visit. Starlings from previous years, in my previous house, were so lively, and noisy and playful, and fighting each other and constantly bathing etc. So unusual
I wonder if parents really left them too early.

Re: STARLINGS
When I fill up the fat ball feeder, I am barely at the front door before they are in devouring the fat balls. Four fat balls in the feeder only last about three hours if lucky. I am sure at times there are around fifty adults and chick. What a noise.

Re: STARLINGS
Sadly today a Starling turned up in the garden with an awful injury. In case it is not clear in the photos it appears he has lost the power to control his lower mandible. His beak hangs open. He tried to pick up food but couldn't but he did manage a little drink. The best guess on how that happen is that he flew into something headfirst. A window for instance.
