Heartless council
Re: Heartless council
Its absolutely diabolical what they did. I can't believe some council would be so cruel, they are probably just so negligent and ignorant. And its a total PR disaster for them. People are very angry about the whole thing and that showed on all social media. They said they will take them down, but it can't be soon enough, those poor birds
Re: Heartless council
That's terrible.
This new practice of netting trees and hedges is starting to get out of hand. It's a massive fiddle to say well look birds don't nest in there so we can cut it down to put the houses up. Yes but they don't nest in there because you've covered it up!

There are 2 petitions regarding nets if anyone wants to sign, not sure if it will have any effect but we must make our feelings known!

From what I can gather, the council has now said it will remove the upper part of the netting today. I take it that is where the burrows are for nesting. Not taking it all down. So I gather that no new burrows will be able to be made. Don't know how large the colony is, but at least they will be able to get on with nesting once the netting has been removed.
Re: Heartless council
Contractors have been removing the upper netting today so the sand martins can nest.
