My uncle(he of the strange happenings) grows plenty of veg for his own use has told me that his potato crop is as good as he's had in any previous year despite the dry conditions. His brassicas looked a bit sickly during the hot dry spell have now recovered well and look like providing a decent crop.

There you go then - surprised at potatoes flourishing, just as I was surprised by tomatoes failing.
Never can tell.

Did not take long for the grass to recover from the heat. Will have to start cutting now.

Another example of The Law Of Unintended Consequences: harlequin invasion of homes following the heatwave of '18. If they invade your home just leave them alone. WHAAAAT ?!?!?!?! That had to be written by a man :smack:

During The Summer Of '76 I recall a News item on tv showing a lamp-post covered in ladybirds so here we go again.
Of course, in those days it was British ladybirds doing the swarming - no-one had ever heard of harlequins.

I have not noticed any upturn in Harlequin numbers in my area. If and when they do appear they will NOT be getting "squatters rights" in the chateau. :shake:
