WHAT I SAW TODAY.....

Post by Jacksparrow »

Very busy with birds in the garden today. I think they have been close on the record for the amount of food they've tucked away.

Unfortunately I don't know what it was I saw as the glimpse was too brief, but in the woods today I turned to see something disappearing off the path ahead in to the undergrowth. It was black (or dark) with a tail about the same length as the body and lying flat to the ground (so wasn't a squirrel). It was trotting (not bounding like a squirrel) too but about that sort of size. I wondered if it was a stoat.

If it was dark coloured it may have been a Polecat or a Mink.

A Ferret is a domesticated Polecat with some fancy colours through breeding. Some parts of the country have colonies of black Squirrels. Mainly in the areas bordering East Anglia.
