Just building up the excitement. I take my lead from Agatha Christie where you don't find out what's happening until the last page :)

.......It was his best mate Mick Snuts. Andy gave an inaudible sigh as he blamed his current state completely with Mick although his recollections of the event were very sketchy after 9 pm. "Allo mate" said Mick cheerily, "ow's yer `ed?". Andy was having trouble coping with all this bonhomie but forced himself to reply "it's a bit muzzy but I'll live" he said. "That's good " said Mick "as me and the lads are having a livener down at the Ferret Breeders Arms in an hour. Are you coming?" Andy thought about it briefly and decided he could combine it with walking the dog which was the only other thing on his agenda that morning. His trip to the pub would take him past the recycling centre so he decided to bag up a few items and drop them into the waste paper skip. This he did and set off starting to feel a little better as the cold air hit his lungs. When he reached the recycling centre is was very busy being Saturday morning but Andy stood back and with a mighty heave delivered the bag of paper into the skip. That done he trod onwards towards the pub and his mates. No sooner did he arrive than his mobile phone rang............

.....it was Anna,"me and the girls are staying in the shopping mall for lunch so don't bother cooking anything for us" she said "and by the way where are you?I phoned you on our landline first." Andy replied that he was walking the dog, getting a bit of fresh air and getting rid of some waste paper down at the recycling centre. He omitted the pub part of the trip to avoid the obvious comments about over indulgence the previous evening. Anna concluded by saying "if you've got time this afternoon have a read through my documents that arrived in the big brown envelope this morning" and with that she was gone. Andy's blood ran cold at that point and his concerned expression drew the attention of Mick. "What's up mucker?" he asked cheerily,"get that pint down yer neck and I'll but you another"."I can't have another" said Andy in a slow monotone "as I've made an awful mistake." Mick demanded and explanation and what it boiled down to was......................

...Andy thought he had made an awful error as he was certain that Anna's brown envelope had been consigned to the recycling skip along with all the other rubbish. "Well it's too late now" opined Mick "it'll be buried with tons of other waste paper now so you're going to need a good excuse" Andy wasn't at all sure he wanted to return home and face the music but he reasoned with himself that he'd acted quite unaware that the envelope was not his own to dispose of as he saw fit. His brain was full of "what ifs". What if he had taken the time the read the paperwork properly? What if he'd stayed at home instead of going to the pub and finally what if he'd never bother going to the recycling centre? Mick decided that it was a problem for his mate and not one he should become involved in so Andy trudged off home full of dread as to the fate that he felt sure awaited him. As he walked up the garden path he noticed the light was on and realised that his High Noon was at hand...............

Do not forsake me, oh my darlin' .......... :dj:
Mick isn't as daft as he sounds - he has forsaken his best mate (quite right too).

........and he cracked open the front door to let the dog then shut it again and made his way to the back door where he hoped to make his entry and escape the gaze of his wife. "Why have you come in the back door Andy?" he heard her say and he tried to detect if there was any menace in her tone. "My shoes were a bit dirty" he replied I'll be through soon. "Did you get chance to read my mail?" she said. "No I didn't" he lied. "Well you must have" she said as "the papers were all over the floor and the envelope is missing".To say Andy was overcome with mixed emotions was to put it mildly. Here he was getting scolded for a small fib while being washed over by a feeling of great relief that the actual paperwork was still at home and safe. "Oh! sorry dear I was little hungover this morning and couldn't remember" he replied. "Fancy a cup of tea?"
Anna said she did and continued trying to make sense of the newly arrived correspondence.......
