Today was the autumn equinox for 2017 but it isn't the day when there is an equal amount of light and dark hours in the day. That day is the 27th of this month this year.

For reasons best known to the people who measure these things the equinox is measured from when the sun is bisected by the horizon both at dawn and sunset so it is still light. By the 27th(this year) it is completely below the horizon to the point where we get equal day and night.(or sumfing like that )

It's all about zeniths and nadirs, axolotls and azimuths. Any fule knows that .

Anyway, I thought your original post was somehow connected to the Vick in yer wellies post, which is why I asked 'Why' .

Placi, some years ago when Boots had first introduced their repeat prescription service - no delivery just collect the medication from, presumably, your nearest branch - I tried to sign up for this a few times - what a fiasco - I don't think the website had yet been set up properly for it.

I emailed them about this and they came back and asked would I be willing to join a forum they were setting up, probably to include promoting this service, and answer questions and join in discussions about it. I would only have to be on the forum about half an hour a day

No mention of my inability to join the scheme.

I don't think I answered them - can't remember doing so anyway.

Are you sure it was Boots, Nuthatch ? Sounds a lot like BT to moi .

I'm not quite clear as to whether you have hitched up to a prescription delivery service. As I said, my local chemist runs its own scheme but the ad on tv, Pharmacy2U, is general I believe.
Lloyd's also run their own.

Amazing !! This morning's post brought un-asked for info from Pharmacy2U .
I'll stick with my local service (Support Your Local Independent Chemist and all that) but couldn't help wondering whether Nuthatch is involved in this somewhere .

I have bought some things from Pharmacy2U though.

There is a Boots (nearest chemist to us). The independent one on the corner closed years ago

There are also two chemists, one either side of the surgery. One has been there since the surgery was built and the other one has been there a few years - they are both chain ones. The newer one is easier to get to, about eight steps from the surgery door. The old one you have to walk off the grounds onto the pavement etc. It's small - we've never liked going in there - it sort of seems full of germs

Omg one day Mr Nuthatch brings me a bag of meds (from the new place) - I open it up .. funny look on the label and it's for a 91 year-old woman in a care home

Just for a laff I rang our local chemist to ask about the diffy 'twixt their service (it's called e-mis) and Pharmacy2U.
She said, a little bit diffidently, that she wasn't supposed to compare or advise but, "between us", their service offered a much more personal service - same day hand-to-hand delivery for urgent cases, and the possibility of postal delays with no redress. I mentioned the NHS logo, both on the tv advert and on the envelope I had received today and she said they are being a bit naughty in using that because they are not connected to the NHS at all.
Back in 2006 our GPs' surgery lettered all the patients to recommend e-mis and I've been with it ever since.

Forgot to say - under the emis website a patient can book appointments with a doctor as well.
Doesn't work of course, but that's not emis' fault. You have to turn up at Reception and fight for an appointment now if you want the doctor of your choice (which I do).
