WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
Usually the maggies see it off if a jay comes (rare, I admit) but an extended feed like that makes me always hope that the bird (whatever it is) might return .......
I had a nuthatch (no relation) once on some peanuts but have never seen one in the garden since.

Jay came again early this morning but after only about 15 seconds one single feral landed close by and the jay took fright.
I know they're shy but that was ridiculous

Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
I first saw it last night but I have seen quite a bit of a young Greenfinch running(literally) around the garden in the vicinity of the hanging feeders. My first thought was it has Tricho
but on closer inspection it looks fairly normal. Bright of eye and not fluffed up.If it doesn't become cat food I shall have to keep a close eye on it.

Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
A small family of LTTs descended on my garden toady. They hung around for about 10 minutes and one allowed me to take a photo.

Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
What with the garden being well nigh deserted it's an ill wind
- the jay at lunchtime for a long feed taken with no fear and no disturbance. Wonderful to watch.

Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
Nice photo, Jacksparrow
Lovely, that the jay stayed so long
let's hope it returns toady

Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
Two racing Pigeons complete with leg rings arrived this afternoon. They immediately got stuck into the fallen seed that the Sparrows are chucking out the feeders at present. When replete they flew off again without so much as a thank you.

Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....
Good thing you didn't call the local Racing Pigeon Branch to collect, Jacksparrow. We did and it had its neck wrung
.
It was a lovely, gentle bird too.
