The first froglet was spotted today. Oddly it was in the newly relined pond rather than the well established. My theory is that it left the well established to seek it's fortune and fell into the other :frog:

Four legs but still has a tail getting used to being out of water.

Quite few froglets were about today. They should be starting to leave the ponds soon. My biggest concern is bird predation as one of the juvenile Blackbirds was trying it's hand at catching tadpoles today. It didn't succeed while I was watching but practice makes perfect.

Ah, the young, the young. But everyone has to learn. S'pose the froglets are learning too, which balances things up a bit.
Now back in my day .......

Today, I took it upon myself to give one of the froglets a little help. I saw it was moving along the perimeter of the pond as if it was looking for a way out. I reached for the net and landed it into a nearby clump of flowers. If I find them out in the open I always return them a sheltered spot.

I find that philanthropic act very moving :cry3:, and quite out of character I have to say.
Made my day.

Mrs JS reported a dead frog in the relined pond today so I was dispatched to fish out the body :( I had a good trawl around the area of pond indicated and no dead frog was located but I did get dozens of tadpoles yet to mature  So the finding of the dead body(if there really is one  ) is for another day as is the plague of frogs I'll get if even half of the tadpoles mature into froglets.
