On Wednesday my washing machine expired.
The SIL recommended some local lads to come to fix it and they turned up within a few hours. The took it apart, but couldn't really find a problem, so said it must be the circuit board. They didn't want any cash for it as they hadn't fixed it, but they were there for the best part of an hour, so we made them have a twenty.
Now if there were lots of people in my area, I'd certainly recommend them, but I don't think they do house calls in Englandshire

We looked up parts costs and since it would cost over £100 to get that fixed, I decided I'd get a new one.
So the company I'd recommend is www.ao.com (formally known as appliances online)
If you order before midnight you can have it the next day. I chose an all day slot (for free) and they texted me at 7am to say my slot was 3-7pm.
Then later in the day, I checked on-line and it narrowed it down to between 4:15 & 6:15. This page keeps updating and about 4:30 it changed to 5:15-7:15.
They arrived about 5:30 ish,
They do a price match with other companies including John Lewis and I was well impressed with the keeping up of eta.

We could have paid a tenner for them to take the old one away, but couldn't be bothered. However we cheekily asked them to wheel the old one to the kerb as they had a wheely thing. Within an hour the scrappies had turned up and carted it away. Now I'm not too sure of my feelings about this. On the one hand, they were prompt and removed it, on the other, it kind of feels like they are stealing things. I never asked them to take it away, so why do they think they can just take things.

Look on the bright side they saved you from the possible accusation of fly tipping. It is a fact of life around where I live that if you leave anything lying around with a cash value someone uninvited will relieve you of responsibility for it.

We, too, got our present washing machine not too long ago from Appliances Online, as it was then known and couldn't believe it when it arrived the next day They took our old one but I can't recall whether or not there was a charge for this.

On Sat I ordered a manual carpet sweeper 'cos now I find the vacuum cleaner a bit heavy for everyday use.
It arrived yesterday and it's ever so good .
The problem with one we had years ago was the plastic handle which bent alarmingly every time it was pushed but this one is sturdy metal with no sway whatsoever.
It picks up on the pull as well as the push and emptying it is child's play.
I read some reviews about Bissell and Ewbank and neither seemed to satisfy all the customers but this one - Dustcare Lightweight - ticks all the boxes.
I got it on eBay from "Spares2Go", free P&P, total with VAT = £13.99.

Sounds like a good buy and quick delivery I usually work Amazon and they are pretty quick.

Our front door jammed locked the other day. We used 'checkatrade' and called out a local locksmith. He turned up within 15 minutes, spent 45 minutes striping bits down and greasing them, re-aligning the door and resetting the locking mechanisms. He didn't stop talking, telling us about the many and varied adventures he has encountered. He asked us just to pay his fuel costs as he didn't use any parts. We agreed on a nominal fee because the service was great and the door has never opened, shut and locked so easily (even when it was new)!! The guy was the owner of CSI security and they clearly put the customer first.

I had a nice surprise today.
I checked my statement to see that I'd paid BT £2.60. I got confused wondering what that was for. I'd recently cancelled the free BT sport and thought they might have got confused and cancelled everything.
It was a credit labelled "Sorry for the issues with BT Mail".
Apparently there'd been a lot of messing about with BT emails recently. I don't use mine, but had a few emails and texts saying sorry about it, but it didn't bother me.
So that was nice. A month's refund for (for me) no reason. Cheers, BT

No. They were kind enough to let me pay them £2.60 (I wasn't impressed as someone had been using the landline to call mobiles (a 11 minute call cost £1.5 whereas on my mobile it would have been 88p, ))
