Mrs PB suggested a jolly to Ham Wall, as we had a day off together, and the forecast was far less stiflingly hot than of late. In fact, it was forecast rain and or showers for most of the morning. Undaunted, and with sustenance in the form of sausages in crusty rolls prepared, we headed out a little after 6, and with my navigational skills passing the test, around 7:30 we arrived. The plan was to head directly to the Avalon Hide (where I saw the Bittern back in March) before chowing down on yumminess.... as you'll see, I got a bit distracted, as part 1 is just the walk to the hide

Including a lifer... what could I do

A lovely sequence with the purple heron PB, very nice. I guess that trumps a bittern in the uk

Super shots of the Blue Heron and offspring

. Worth the day out by itself, that and the crusty Sausage sarnies of course.

Three nice sets PB. Never seen a purple heron, lovely looking bird.

Thanks Jack, it was purple, though, not blue, and it was just the one bird. The reported adult must have stayed hidden, or sloped off somewhere

The sausages (obviously) were the hit of the day

Well, I thought I was being gallant, and offered up a market, as I know she's partial to one, then out of the blue she said about Ham Wall... I nearly bit her hand off
