Something you don't see everyday - a Great Crested Grebe hauling itself out of the water.

It's no great surprise given that the nest is high and dry!

Will be vulnerable to predators I would imagine. Nice pic.

I am fairly sure I have never seen one out of the water for any reason.

I believe the nest was in the water when they first started but we think the nest was originally predated by Jackdaws. They have tried again but as you can see the reservoir water levels are dropping rapidly. It may be they are a young pair and this list their first attempt at breeding. Most other Grebes in the area already have their first set of humbugs.

Not sen it many times and only have a handful of Great Crested Grebe in flight shots too, out of about 500 GCG photos
