I always think the skin on their feet looks a bit lizard like. It's true I didn't have too many options for photo's, doesn't help when someone has pulled the plug out of the lake. Probably more water in that bath you photographed the other day

Is it a breeding thing, or just an age thing that gives them the red beak?

I think it's a juvenile from this year PB, just a hint of red showing.

Oh yes, now I remember: Coots have yellow legs, some red on their yellow beak and they walk really goofy!
