It's just possible to see the 6'6" fence so I s'pose 20ft was a bit generous. I'll go for 18.5 ft.

Such a shame, Placi - does it really have to come down? Can't the offending root/s be destroyed? or will it then eventually die or grow back and marmalise the 'new' pond?
:duck:
Can't you have a new pond dug out somewhere else or are the roots too widespread? :bolt: :sofa:

I know, Nuthatch, it really is a beautiful tree.
Actually, I think I've found that the suckers aren't from the cherry but from the blackthorn which is further to the right of the cherry. And checking google it says that indeed blackthorn throws up a lot of suckers so when Paul materialises to perform the deed I'll check that it is the blackthorn which needs to come out and not the cherry.
I don't want to get rid of that either because of the beautiful early blossom but given a choice the cherry is favourite to remain.

If that is what needs to be done then I really think that both the cherry and the silver birch need lopping because they're both enormous but obviously that must wait until the winter. Paul will know what's best.

Placi, what about leaving the cherry tree and blackthorn and doing away with the pond? - you could have a new dip dug out for a dustbin lid waterhole :)

Got windows 10 last night. Was ready to install. Just finding my way round at the moment.
Managed to get Cortana to work. Bit limited at the moment, not star trek.

I've been using it since last Thursday and have had only one teensy weensy snag. When using the browser and if for some reason the connection to the new site fails I have lost the Wi-Fi connection. It is easy to re-connect but a slight PITA.
