I think they breed in Oban harbour, using the harbour wall as a cliff face... Didn't manage to see them last time we were there 🙄

I think we were a bit late for them, we didn't see any in full breeding plumage.

Am glad you ID'd them SM as a would have wrote them off as cormorant.....even though I have seen both....just laziness 😀

Thanks Linda, my default ID is cormorant :laugh: It's odd because shag outnumber cormorants in the UK.

Shag UK breeding birds 27,000 pairs & UK wintering 110,000 birds
Cormorant UK breeding birds 9,018 pairs 7 UK wintering 41,000 birds
