My local charity shop currently has two copies of the Domesday Book for sale. Has the British Museum been having a clear out?

Aaaahhahh, they've finished it at last - about time too.

Now it's more than likely that I've been called a pedant(or worse) in times gone by for pointing out where people have made rudimentary errors in grammar or word usage.
So what has got his goat now? I hear you ask. Well `tis this. Those advertising Johnnies working for O2, the mobile phone company, are currently boasting about their network coverage using some footage of Goslings following a chap around like he is their parent. All very cute and charming except.......they are calling the Goslings..........BABY Geese. Is the UK education system so poor that many wouldn't know that GOSLINGS are young Geese?
Is a Foal now a baby horse, a piglet a baby pig or a lamb a baby sheep. For goodness sake it has taken me years to accept vegetables being offered for sale as being babies because they are small please can we educate the people to know what the young animals are called rather than giving the the human"baby" tag to everything.
Rant over I feel better now I might just pour myself a baby glass of red wine.

By chance, this morning I saw the ad. referred to above by The Ranting Pedant, and found it charming and without fault. After all, realistically speaking, a gosling IS a baby goose and a foal IS a baby horse, a roll IS a baby bread and a grain IS a baby wheat-field.

But why, oh why, do all such adverts - 'phones, sim cards, broadband, etc. - all come with cockney voiceovers ?? Do the London ad agencies believe that no-one outside the M.25 has any need for these techy things. Other generic ads don't do this as a rule.
This sort of geographicalism upsets my unruffled, serene state of mind

If they're going to use someone with a regional accent to promote their goods I suppose cockerknee is the one we're most familiar with as there are many programmes which are set in that part of the country. I wonder if the ads shown in Scotland feature someone with a nice Edinburg burr. A weegeee accent might please some but go not understood by the many.

Went into chemist this morning to pick up prescrip. and the lass behind the counter was just saying to an old feller, "Rub it on your feet, wear socks, and your chest will feel better in the morning."
He just said, 'thanks' and walked out. I pursued the matter ......

Turns out she was speaking about Vick vapour rub . New one on me this so I questioned further - the active ingredients are absorbed into the body and aid decongestion of the chest.
Now we all know about rubbing Vick on the chest and the vapours will clear the head, etc., but this is not the vapours it is absorption.
The lass also said that it's good for earache .

Great news,I shall be putting it in my wellies forthwith . I've also read on t'interweb that it will kill nail fungi. I've not put it to the test so accept no claim for injury should you're toes drop off.
