The next morning(nearly 24 hours later) he went out to the wheelie bin with some rubbish and spotted the errant slipper in the middle of the lawn. It was soaking wet from the overnight rain. Between the loss of the slipper and finding it again he had not left the house.
If there is a rational explanation I would be keen to hear it.
