Unfortunately I think Placi is right. It may not be a juvenile as they usually have streaky breast feathers but they may be obscured by the camera focus.

Thanks guys. I kinda thought something wasn't right as it did not look very perky and sat around for a long time without eating. The only plus for me out of this is that I know the poor little bird didn't catch it in my garden as I keep everything very clean.

I saw my local Sprawk overflying my garden with a victim in his talons. I hasten to add from someone else's garden not mine. He did return to my garden about 10 minutes later but left empty talonned.

Sorry I don't know!
I saw a very sad sight this evening on my way home. I just came down a country road to find the cars in front of me slowing down and stopping. The reason for this was a procession of ducks had decided to cross the road. Sadly 2 had been squashed and killed. This had happened on my side of the road. A man in a 4 by 4 on the other side of the road had stopped on got out and was trying to shepherd the rest of the ducks to safety on the other side of the road, in a "Don't look back - keep moving fashion!" It was very sad to see. The driver who had squashed the 2 ducks had obviously driven off without stopping and was well gone. Whether the ducks had just stepped out without notice or the driver hadn't cared and just run them down, I just don't know! That part of road was not hidden from view or just round a bend, so they had plenty of time to stop unless the ducks had suddenly emerged from the side. About 6 ducks survived to safety if they didn't try to come back again after I had driven past the scene.
