Since the cold snap began, the consumption of food, particularly suet pellets which the birds have shunned for a long time, is steadily rising. The few blackbirds have however disappeared entirely

The ferals have returned in force again.(sorry to be going on about this again) I am rapidly reaching the point where I have to withdraw some of the food for the periods which they like most. This is usually an hour after dawn and a couple of hours before dusk. Unfortunately (for my other users) this will mean reduced availability for a while when the amount of daylight available is shrinking fast.

The ferals were exceptionally persistent today.

Usually a couple of shoo offs is enough to send them on their way but today for some reason they kept returning time and time again and were reluctant to fly off

The birds are getting more reliant on my offering once again. Only the fat balls seem to be relatively untouched and I have no idea why.

I gave up buying fat balls, my birds never touched them, never worked out why

I only buy the more expensive fat balls. They are around £11:00 for 50. Much better than the cheaper ones, with plenty of suet. Just a smattering of seeds. They look like a ball of suet.
