It's just come to me out of the blue: alstroemeria (Peruvian lily).
Simply amazed that they grow here, but I s'pose Devon would be the place !!

Would that Peruvian lily be bulbous Placi?. If so I may lift a couple in the Autumn. Thanks for that jacksparrow, never knew Paddington bear came from Peru. Probably cause I never read the books. Can add one or two more to the list Alpacas, and maybe Llamas. Have seen alpacas in Devon.

Hi Willpar: I have access to The RHS Encyclopaedia of Plants & Flowers, and it says here .......
Alstroemeria is a tuberous perennial - good for cutting as the flowers last well - frost hardy but protect dormant tubers in very cold winters - needs sun and well-drained soil - propagate by seed or division of tubers in early spring - contact with foliage may aggravate skin allergies.
So, sounds like it's worthwhile waiting for seed, otherwise next early spring to divide the tubers.
How fascinating - what a find !!!

Thanks for that Placi. I go by there a few times a week. May take seed and a couple of tubers. People seem to throw their garden waste there or have self seeded. But nice flowers.
Had a quick look around Placi, plants are not cheap at around nine quid per plant. I like freebies.
