Mix of cloud and sun in the morning. Mainly sunny in the afternoon, and warm.

Actually the weekend would be profitably spent in battening down the hatches - a hurricane currently entertaining The Azores is due to track north and hit us on Monday evening .
What is spooky is that it will be the 30th anniversary of Michael Fish's infamous forecast that there would be no hurricane  and the southern counties lost 15 million trees overnight !!!

I remember the occasion: it was on the lunchtime forecast at 1.30 pm I think it was. Next day, Fish was all over the newspapers , and didn't lose his job; in fact, it made his fortune :D !!

Yes, I remember it well. Lots of damage here where I live. I just lost one roof tile, but along the road roofs were blown off garages and several house roofs were badly damaged.

A weather expert chappie was on the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 today explaining that the 1987 "hurricane" was not a real hurricane but a storm with hurricane force winds. Real hurricanes, he said, are the product of the warm seas in the equatorial regions and our own sea temperatures are too cold to sustain one. That fact alone will make me sleep more soundly as the chateau roof departs to adorn the nearby playing field. :windy:
