Mmm just wondering if it's really true  seemed like a standard reply - just wondered what was wrong with the hedgie other than dehydration ....

I suppose if they're so busy they can't be going into chatty detail.

If it had a worm burden nuthatch then that not help it put on weight. They do poo samples for that, looking at it under a microscope to look for worms and eggs. Then once they know what sort of worms, then can start treatment. Give injections for that over several weeks.

Thanks for explaining all that, Willpar - so it can be quite a slow process - even to get it to do an initial poo I suppose . . .

They did say after a week they'd be able to tell if it had been poisoned (by slug pellets?) in which case they would put it down - I was just wondering if it was still with us, having handled it etc. You somehow feel so responsible if it's found that way in your garden ....

I wondered how much it weighed when they were given the info about it to pass on. :hedgehog:

Slug pellets nuthatch could lead to a slow lingering death. Usually the hogs mouth has blue froth around it, that is a ttell tale sign. Just may be under nourished and have a worm burden.
