Placido very kindly to our attention to Pigeon Watch which was happening at the Oval Cricket pitch in London. The BBC news headlines at 6 pm promised us all report from the Oval so I eagerly awaited the update only to see a gang of louts chasing around a little battle while waving bats about. Not a single mention of the pigeons at any time

Why do we pay the licence fee?

- 'Why am I paying for this ????'
The battle sounds very interesting - and I missed that

PS: Next year the BBC is actually showing live cricket so that's something to look forward to, isn't it. I SAID, isn't it ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Everyone can do their own nature spotting in the outfield

- it's the new ECB brainwave: The Hundred, no 'onestly it is

Designed to get more famblies to go to a cricket ground, pay, and watch 16 overs - so they're showing it live on BBC so the famblies can stay at home, not pay, and watch 16 overs

.....and that is so different to the existing 20:20 because..PS I know it is less overs so what else will be different?

I could go on an' on but ........

100 balls per innings with change of end every 10 deliveries, thus leading to a total of 16.4 overs in today's money.
Bowlers have maximum of 20 balls delivered in either 5 or 10 consecutive balls, bearing in mind the change of ends.
Each fielding side gets a strategic timeout of maximum of 2.5 minutes in which to plan strategically.
Powerplay of 25 balls at the beginning of each innings when only 2 fielders can be outside the 30-yard circle.

No info on whether the entrance fee will be less due to the fewer balls being bowled; each team (8 in the league) gets a brand new explosive new name, like 'Birmingham Phoenix'

). The West Country team is called 'Welsh Fire' although only one of the three teams is Welsh so that'll go down well.
The strategic thinking is that if you don't follow cricket in any form you will pay to watch this and so will all the family.
Mercifully each game lasts 3 hours but that's to fit in with the TV scheduling not for the spectators' pain barrier.
It begins in July 2020 in the middle of the international season and the ECB expects international players to actually play in this

Hmmmm....sounds a bit gimmicky to me but then I'm a bit of a traditionalist. It seems they are catering for those with a short attention span and the telly folks. Much obliged for the explanation.

PS will there be a Barmy Army team?
