That's extraordinary greeenfinch. Blackbirds are one of the most common garden birds in the UK. I cannot believe that there is nothing in your garden to interest them.
PS perhaps its the Gulls they're keeping clear of.

There are two on the grass being fed by the father.

I think the feathers develop quite quickly if they're already in quill. Days rather than weeks I think.
