On an American tv prog t'other day I saw a guy ( ) in the process of hanging a drinker for wild birds.
Can't find it on Google but it appeared to be an inverted bottle screwed to a base. The base was the interesting part - it resembled two saucers, one upside down so the whole thing looked like a sort of flying saucer. The top 'saucer' had about 5 holes therein around the rim, which prevented the liquid (which was red ) from becoming contaminated.

Obviously, we have saucer-like drinkers here but haven't seen one with this clever addition of the inverted saucer with holes.

Ah, yes. Think you are correct, Willpar.
I s'pose h/birds are so common in USA that it wasn't necessary to refer to the gadget.

This week has seen a noticeable drop in the amount of food being taken. I am still getting a few of all the usual suspects but clearly I am entering the moulting period when demand drops until Autumn is in full swing.

I hope thats the reason for the drop in demand here too, its been twice now that all birds have disappeared from my garden, ALL of them  . They came back after a day or two last time (not long ago) and today they are gone again. All the food is just sitting there and the garden looks empty :cry2:

Shut the back door and keep `em in the garden :) You must have inherited mine which have now thinned out after a very busy fledging season.

I have a feeling mine may be a second brood if they have them.

A bunch of starlings came to have some lunch today and they looked so different with some parts of their bodies covered with new feathers, their trademark white spots  , while some parts were still with old grey/brown/pale colour. They looked so odd and so funny :D .
Kept really quiet which was so unusual, had some food quickly and then one of them said "Urk" . I guess that was "lets go" because they all flew away :flying:
