Nuthatch (big and small one) coming to feeders on a daily basis. 'She who must be obeyed' commented the other day that we hadn't seen LTTs for a while. Low and behold just looked out the window at the feeding station and there were six on various feeders (fat ball, suet block feeders and sunflower hearts chip feeders).

Have never had a nuthatch, would be a great one to see. Long tailed tits only in winter, but not that often.

Not the best photo. Initial thought this was a Blackcap. They usually winter around the Mediterranean although a small population winters in Britain. Will keep my eyes open and try and get a better pic, for identification, if it comes back. That would be a good one for the Big Garden Birdwatch.

It looks very much like a male Blackcap to me. They make their way over here from mainland Europe at this time of year. They are charming little birds with a broad appetite.

I took the opportunity today to watch the birds on the SF hearts feeder for about five minutes. During that short period there were Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Blue tit, a Blackcap, sparrows and a Robin. Underneath picking up the crumbs were Blackbirds and Feral Pigeons.
SFH are a miracle food for wild birds. I'm certain my garden would be very much quieter without it.

Out for a walk in the lanes this morning. A field with a flock of sheep, and no less than 6 egrets amongst them.
