By way of a Chrimbo treat for my birds and to save me from having to go out in the cold and wet so often I have purchased(at no little expense) a new feeder. I decided it should hold sunflower hearts as that tends to be in the biggest demand from birds other than sparrows. It (the feeder) has eight feeding ports and holds about twice as much as the feeder it is replacing.
I hung it up yesterday PM and waited for all the grateful birds to come flying in to get the goodies. Well, the flying in bit happened but with the sole exception of the Robin they all took one look and flew off again
Today dawned and during the period I was watching the Blue and Coal Tits had decided it was worth the risk as they dashed in, grabbed a heart and flew off again. The Collared Doves looked at it hungrily from all angles then flew off empty cropped.

I watched again at lunch time as a small flock of Goldies descended and started feeding as though nothing had changed.
I'm sure the ultra cautious birds will soon get over the new feeder soon but I was astonished at how reluctant some were to use the new feeding station.
