Your Garden Hedgehogs
Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs
I've still got 2 or 3. They are eating for 10, though.
The other night I came across one just outside the back door when I was putting more food out. I stuck some mealworms under its nose, but he scarpered off to behind the bins. The wind blows all the dead leaves into that corner and I could hear him rustling about. I waiting in the dark, listening and wondering what on earth he was doing as the rustling was going on a long time. So I put the torch back on and went looking for him. I couldn't see him in the corner and surmised he'd gone out under the gate and round the front of the garage. I could still just about hear him, but couldn't find him. He must have had a leaf on every one of his spines.

Just as I thought would not see any juveniles this year, seems I have one or more turn up last night. Bit late, so now I will have to stay up and try and catch it or them to weigh.
Here is the video, three joined together. Its face looks so cute in the opening clip. Melted my heart.

I never want to see a juvie in the autumn. I've never seen a juvie in the spring.
He doesn't look too young.
Weather doesn't seem to be getting too cold over the rest of the month (bearing in mind forecasts further out than looking up into the sky are dodgy)

You are right there nuthatch. Luckily I still have some high protein food left so hopefully will put on weight quickly. No adults last night but I did pick up another juvenile. Caught one last night and gave it a dulux. Have the other to catch now and mark. Will keep a close eye on them and do my best for them.
Here is the video of both together. Probably from the same litter.

Great stuff, Willpar. Fingers crossed for them but it's been said before: they know where to come
.
I've still got at least one hedgie but every night it seems to be luck as to whether one gets the mealworms or the fox beats them to it.
I can tell each morning when I wash the dishes - if the hedgie won the race then the dish is sticky; if Foxy won then it's easier to clean !!

Can you see on the right-hand side that there looks to be a ghostly squirrel?

It's just the way the grass is of course
