MAGPIES
Re: MAGPIES
There was a magpie nest high up in the tree right across the street that I could see from my living room window, in the winter months that is, when there is no leaves. I've seen youngsters fledging and creating a circus nearby every year. I can't remember when it was the first time that I spotted that its missing . I couldn't believe at first and I kept checking closely but nope, definitely gone
I can't think of a reason why would a magpie nest disappear when we didn't even have any storms or high winds this year!
I feel really sad for that magpie couple

Hi Butterfly. Could be that the sticks got brittle over the years and it just collapsed.

Re: MAGPIES
18 months ago hardly a day passed without at least one magpie was plodding around my garden. I think they had a nest nearby and I also had visits from the young when they were old enough. Since then it has been very intermittent. I usually hear them before I see them. They have an uncanny knack of knowing when something meaty has been put on the bird table.
Re: MAGPIES
I am happy to report that a magpie couple in the neighbourhood, oposite side of the couple who's nest disappeared, are busy doing nestorations . I can see their nest from my kitchen window and I see them flying in and out all the time, every time with a twig in their beaks
