The long dry spell we are enjoying in the SW Midlands has been playing havoc with the oxygen levels in the relined pond. There are oxygenating plants in there but the tadders have been showing signs that they were having problems for a few weeks now. Today there were a few bodies floating on the surface so I have started transferring more to the other pond which is in fine balance. It will be a long job as they are well scattered. :(

Do you know why Pond No. 2 is balanced but No. 1 isn't ? I should think this little task will take care of today and no mistake !!

I have upset the whole little ecosystem by pulling everything out, thinning out etc. I am surprised it is as good as it is. The water is a soupy green probably because I refilled with tap water and that will only right itself over time. Hopefully next year it will start to right itself.

My No.2 daughter(currently on furlough) managed to transfer a good few more tadders today. Plus we spotted the first one with a set of rear legs. :)

I now have 4-legged tadpoles and they have started to haul out onto lily pads. This is the usual indicator that there will be froglets about soon. After an unpromising start to the season we are on course for a bumper year.
