WHAT I SAW TODAY.....

It's come on twice again - I don't know how to erase one. Sorry.

I had a look to try and delete one but I couldn't see where it had been entered twice. I will use my stereoscopic viewer to get the full effect.

I can't be sure, but I think a sparrowhawk was in action this morning. When I looked out the window I saw my garden full of wood pigeon's feathers, literally all over the garden. RIP woddy

There may have been a strike but not necessarily a kill. A Woody is at the upper end of what a Sprawk will take on and then only the female.

That might be Jack, and I thought that woddy is a bit bigger than their usual kill, but I suspect woddy is dead by the amount of feathers there was lesf behind, it really was a lot of feathers. I can't be sure it was Sprawk though, I was just guessing. Is there any other bird of pray that would go for a big target such as woody?

It might have been a cat as they will leave a great deal of mess.

That did cross my mind, but there was no blood or any remains, just a lot of feathers, it looked like they were plucked. We will never know for sure
I did catch and startled a cat in my garden in the dark tonight (and it startled me too ) , not happy

Today and for the last couple of days a pair of Jackdaws collecting beakfuls of bits and pieces of dried vegetation off my drive. I don't think the nest is in the chateau grounds but one of my neighbours has some very big Leylandii which may be the building site.

Whilst self-isolating with my next-door this morning she mentioned that she had seen a quail (!!!!! ) in her garden early yesterday morning. Her son-in-law is a birder and she 'phoned him - he said it certainly sounded like one from her description.

Note to Self: Get up even earlier, I'm missing the best bits !!

People keep Quail for their eggs. Could be an escapee or should have gone to specsavers
