Got at least five Blackbirds coming into the garden. Agree with Willpar, females look darker

Wonder why the female blackbirds are looking darker. Evolution? or something else.

Have a female blackbird that is a regular visitor now. Just went out with some food and it came within three feet of me.

I had some great entertainment from my Blackies today. I currently have 6 regulars and when I put out the sultanas competition is intense. One of the males thinks they're all for him and guards them fiercely but unfortunately(for him that is) he can only be in one place at a time. A rival for the food will land on the bird table then while that one is seen off others will approach from behind and grab a couple of beakfulls . They in turn are seen off by the guardian of the goodies before the whole circus is repeated over again. :fence:

Female blackbird came to the steps yesterday, to get some live mealworms.

A good little clip Willpar. I saw my females taking soggy moss from the pond margins a couple of weeks ago.

This afternoon we had thunder storms. They were short lived but intense. After one shower a couple of my female BBs set about drying themselves out in the sun by spreading their wings as wide as possible and flattening themselves against the lawn. They then posed in different positions to make sure the sun dried other parts of their plumage. Very funny to watch.
