Having thought about it JS, can get tubular feeders with a cage to stop squirrels and large birds.

Pesky pigeons have been a constant nuisance all afternoon. I lost count of the number of time I scared them away.

They can be very determined JS. Glad i don`t get them here.

Not quite feral, but i found this bird out in the street today. Could not fly, as its flight feathers on one wing was missing. So took it in and fed and watered it. Went out for a walk and when i got back, a chap asked if i had seen a pigeon walking around. So i said i have it indoors. Turns out he keeps pigeons and said he would take it. So gave it to him. Lots of feathers missing on its back as well. Chap said it looks like a hawk strike.
It is an irish pigeon going by the ring and is three years old. Probably wont be able to go back because of bird flu.

I have adopted a new policy with the hanging feeders in an attempt to persuade the ferals to look elsewhere for an easy feed. The bigger feeders with easy perch rings have been relegated to the garage and replaced with smaller feeders some of which have only to ports giving the ferals little chance to get food from them. So far it is only working partially as they can still get on some of the bigger feeders but the numbers attending has fallen by about half.

Good news Js, but they can be smart and may get the hang of it. Even tip the feeders so the food will fall on the ground.

First time I have seen here, but a feral pigeon was on the woodies feeder this morning. I hope word does not get around.

If all I had visiting was the odd one or two there would be no problem. They usually turn up mob-handed and 10-20 is not unusual

I let it feed for a couple of minutes and then tapped at the window. It flew off and have not seen it since.

There will be a meeting on a pub carpark somewhere nearby when he'll tell all his mates about a new feeding station he's discovered. Expect a well attended meeting at your garden very soon.
