For a few days now some young goldfinches have been feeding at the ground table - I've never seen that before:-

This is a chick I had three years ago. Came for a few days then disappeared. Haven't had any since.

I agree you don't see Goldies ground feeding very often but when you're young the lure of an easy meal is too tempting to ignore.

Had six goldfinches on the hanging feeder a couple of days ago - looked like a family group

Have a pic of Goldfinch chick feeding on the grass but there was plenty food on the bird table. Post sometime it if I can find.

It is very noticeable that Goldfinch visits are increasing now. I think the natural larder must be exhausted.
