I have noticed that my latest bag of SF hearts has increased in price by about £5 for a 20 kg sack. I don't know if this is because of Brexit or a worldwide shortage.

That is quite a large increase jacksparrow.

My supermarket is closed for a couple of weeks, so i have got some fruit scones here at the local shop. Being eaten, so that is ok.

That is a shame butterfly. But they are nice with a cup of tea. Still they were not wasted.

A new "Pound Stretcher" has opened in my town so I went for a look. The only purchase I made was for a bag of Black Soldier Fly Larvae. They are dried and like quite like mealworms. I had not seen any before and will be interested to see how well they go down.

They are cheaper than mealworms now jacksparrow. I bought a mix of mealworms and calci worms which is what you bought. Next purchase will be just calci worms. 5kg mealworms is now £49 99.

It seems the new food offering has not been met with big approval. I put some in the enclosed feeder I use for mealworms and only about half was taken but I put some in an open bowl and it all disappeared. The Sparrows seemed to be very wary about going through the wire mesh on the enclosed feeder so that may be the reason so little has been eaten.

I use an enclosed feeder for the smaller birds. I am soaking the mealworm/calci worm combo and the sparrows cant get enough of them.

My combo mix have all gone now, so it is just calci worms. All being ate or taken away. Soaked for the cage feeder and dry for the rest.

About this time of year for reasons that I've never understood the sparrows waste a good deal of seed from the hanging feeders. The feral pigeons eat much of it but there is a build up which often gets soggy and uneatable. I have two hanging seed feeders, a 6 port and a 4 port and they are taking 1-2 pounds of seed every day :( My only thought is that the high summer is a time of plenty for insects so they(the Sparrows) get more picky on which seeds to eat as they are not so hungry.
