There is a clear downturn in bird visitors in my garden. Food consumption is down and although the usual suspects are still around it is in fewer numbers. The summer moult may have started for some already.

I did notice that for the sparrows, unless a hawk was around. And maybe they don`t like the hot weather.

At breakfast time this morning there were no birds at all in my garden. Even the pesky pigeons were nowhere to be seen and it stayed that way for the next hour. I suspected the Sprawk had flown through or had made a kill. I went out to the side lawn which is not visible from the house windows and found a dead fledgling blackbird :( There was no spread of feathers around the body which leaves me to think a cat had been hanging around and made the kill. If the unfortunate victim had made alot of noise prior to being killed that would have scared the others away.
The birds did return by afternoon but not quite so many.

This is a bit plain and non-descript but I saw it under the hedge next to my parking space tonight.

Any idea what it's from? It's about an inch (3cm) across, maybe a tad more.

It is either a Woodie egg or possibly a Collared Dove.

Thanks JS.

Judging by what's in the area I think a dove seems more likely. I know they fly them out of the nest and drop them at random, just 'luck' to have landed where it was.

Getting regular visits to the feeders by Greenfinches, every day which is unusual.
