That's exactly right. Exit left, nursing wounded pride, a few displaced fevvers and a black eye (which you can't see).

This is a small starling flock that I see in the area, and they come to dig for grubs on the grass area around my house :D
As I was parking my car today, I saw them on the grass across the road, and I got out to take a picture as there was more of them. At that very moment a magpie attack them and grabbed one of them, pinning it to the ground :faint: . The attacked starling was fighting and screaming, and all the others too, clearly in distress. I run towards them waving my hands and shooing and the starling escaped :flying: . I hope it was not badly injured, it didn't look like it was.
Bloody magpies :grumpy: :wife:

Bravo Butterfly. I have seen magpies harassing smaller birds but never attack one.

I think the attack was almost accidental, because I've seen a magpie swoop over them (starlings) to chase them away from a good source of food, and today one of them probably didn't move  . Still, its violence :grumpy:

During my permitted outdoor stroll today I became aware that many of the fairly recently built houses on an estate near the chateau were hosting Starling nests under their tiles at the gable ends. Those nests now contain screaming Sturklets and the parents were working hard keeping the little bellies well filled.

Starling babies have fledged! :flying:  :dj: . Of course, I heard them before I saw them  , there was this unmistakable noise they make all around the area :D . Than parents brought few of them to my garden and introduced them to the local eatery  . They always steal my heart, so gorgeous

I'm sure you'll see them any day now, they are early this year  . We might have second brood later in the summer :D
I forgot how chaotic it is when starlings fledge
