BLACKBIRDS
Re: BLACKBIRDS
.
There's a nest in the hedge in the back garden with one egg in it. Mrs Blackbird has been seen going in and sitting on the nest.

I'll try to keep an eye on/ear out Jacksparrow ... I haven't seen anything myself other than Mr Blackbird on the hedge. It's very high - OH spotted it when he was on the step ladder looking to cut the hedge

Re: BLACKBIRDS
Such a racket, flapping on the fence and skirmishes in the vicinity of the nest site yesterday evening. I even went round to the other side of the hedge to see if there was a cat but it turned out to be amongst four blackbirds being territorial over the
apples and pears
I put out every day.

Re: BLACKBIRDS
Urgent blackbird racket on front lawn today - looked out and saw 3 blackbirds mobbing a magpie. At least that's what I thought until I realised that the maggie was bent on killing one of them (a teeneger-type) and the other 2 were trying to distract it.
Shot out of the front door and everyone flew off except the victim. It lay on the grass to recover for about 10 mins and then flew/walked to a safe little hidey-hole which is where I left it.
About half an hour ago it disappeared so I'm hoping it feels better.
Have never see a magpie attack a blackbird previously. Maybe it's not always sprawks ??

Re: BLACKBIRDS
My Blackbirds get very exited when the Magpie turns up but I've never seen an attack. I'm wondering if the young Blackie had tried to challenge the Magpie over some food and it was that the kicked off the scrap.Placido wrote:Urgent blackbird racket on front lawn today - looked out and saw 3 blackbirds mobbing a magpie. I'm pleased to hear the young bird staged a recovery. A little Placi TLC was all that was required.
