Mrs JS took it upon herself to indulge in a little bit of gardening yesterday PM. this involved removing the excess growth of the wild strawberry that surrounds my ponds. Two little Frogs were made homeless during this brief period of activity . They were so small I concluded they must be the product of this year's batch of spawn. I was pessimistic at the start of the breeding season doubting there was enough spawn to produce successful froglets but I am cheered to find youngsters with their froggy career just beginning
PS Mrs JS was persuaded to curtail her gardening activity as I pointed out we needed the ground cover to hide the froglets.

All is fine. Mrs JS is in no way an enthusiastic gardener but is sometimes prompted to have a go. She accepts I am gardening for wildlife and most of my little jungles go undisturbed until that is she judges them to be exceeding their bounds.

The recent rains have raised the water level in my ponds so I took the opportunity to trawl out some of the Duck Weed. During this operation I also caught five smallish Tadpoles There were about the size of ones two weeks after they've hatched from the spawn. I can only think there has been a very late batch of spawn but I never saw it.

I try not to mess around in the ponds during the key breeding season the give occupants chance to mature. There is a possibility that things could go on without me noticing as the marginals get bigger and hide the edges of the ponds. It has been my habit to have a bit of a clear out of the pond weed around this time of year but I may have to delay things a little this year.
