Re: TADPOLES
It all looked normal but at the time when I expected the tadpoles to be massing in the jelly before free swimming it all seemed to break up. attrition from the newts hasn't helped the situation.

Re: TADPOLES
Quite a few of the surviving tadpoles were enjoying the sun today. They are starting to grow now.

Re: TADPOLES
While the sun was shining on the ponds this afternoon I took the chance to do a tadpole count. Not good news I'm afraid as I only saw one
It could be that the water is still cold and more will appear when we stop having such cold nights but I am not holding my breath.

Re: TADPOLES
There are still a few tadpoles to be seen. Looking on the bright side the reduced numbers may make it easier for them to hide or evade the newts.

Re: TADPOLES
Three weeks have now passed and much has changed, not least the ambient temperature. Today there were dozens out getting warm in the sun and looked to be growing well. It seems I was way too pessimistic and should have trusted nature more.Jacksparrow wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 7:37 pmWhile the sun was shining on the ponds this afternoon I took the chance to do a tadpole count.
