Must admit i cut mine with a strimmer and leave it a few inches high Have some nice tiny blue flowers. But with all this rain the grass has took off. Will need a couple of days of sunshine to tackle it again. Js, if you have a large lawn, it may pay you to make an irregular shape in the middle and just let that grow. Then you can mow the rest to your hearts content. If you would like to go that way then in the autumn, mark it out and cut the grass shortish, skuff it up and plant meadow seed.I had seen that done on one of my walks.

Thanks for the suggestions Willpar. I have plenty of wild flowers in the borders but the lawns I usually keep short. I have a couple of small patches where cowslips have self seeded and I leave them until August when they have set seed.

The last few days being mostly dry I decided to make the first lawn cut of the year. I selected a medium height for the blades so as to leave the cowslips that are just emerging untouched. Plenty of moss to tackle next month. :(

Yes I cut my lawns two days ago and the garden looks a lot more tidy.

Cut the second lawn this morning, and did a general tidy up.

The lack of rain and hot weather have turned my green lawn very brown at present except for odd patches here and there. Close inspection of the green patches turn out to be weeds, clover and yarrow mainly. How come these unwelcome lawn visitors are unaffected by the drought?

Further to my previous post my lawn is now making a crisp crunching noise when walked upon. I'm hoping no-ones carelessly discarded cigarette butt gets anywhere near it.
