Each day now I fill up the bird bath (did I tell you about that, by the way ?!?!?) to the tune of 1.5 litres, and each day every time I approach there are wasps drinking. No flies, bees or anything other, just wasps.
Wondering whether there is a nest close by , or maybe wasps are more prone to dehydration than other insects .
Anyway, I approach with care .......

Found a total of four active wasp nest this summer. I believe the last time was on the other forum with Sonic. when I found a total of eleven. How time flies.

Haven't found any wasp nest but am sure there's at least one nearby. Never seen so many wasps as this year - put it down to the heat. Anyway, it seems to have been a very good year for them.
I think I've had two kinds: a normal-sized wasp and a smaller type.

Time certainly does fly, Willpar - coming up for 7 years now.

First queen wasp of the season, prospecting for a nest site along the facia/soffit. Not thrilled about this

They(the queen Wasps) have been prospecting the chateau for a week or two now for a likely billet much to Mrs.JS's dismay. I have been recruited to expel the would be Mums before they have chance to set up home. During my absences She resorts to trying to catch them with my pond net without too much success I understand from the post chase reports

Lots of 'ordinary' wasps around enjoying the warm weather but that was the only queen I've seen - so far .

Following on from Jacksparrow's bumble bee spot t'other day, I met a wasp this morning. It was flying very low to the dew-soaked grass . Either thirsty or it had dropped something.

Might have been a Queen looking for winter quarters. They like a small rodent burrow if they can find a vacancy.

Ah, right. Looking for quarters.
The annual lawn excavation of the lawn by treerats hasn't begun yet so she had no luck there.
