Your Garden Hedgehogs
Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs
Hi Butterfly, i have cameras out in the garden 24/7 so know what is going on. will have to look at the time on the cameras to see what time they come into the garden. May be able to catch and weigh. But am not too worried at this stage. Only if we have a very cold spell. But hedgehogs are quite robust and will stand quite a bit of cold. Have had them in snow before. As long as there is food available they should be ok. I take the view is best to leave and monitor than take them in, as they can suffer with stress.

Oh definitely, I am with you on leaving and monitoring , we should intervene only in dire situations
Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs
Looks like the adult hedgehogs have turned in for the long sleep. However, i have had what looks like juveniles coming in for food. Could be at least three of them. I have not long caught before this post one that was on the food. So i took it in to weigh. 340g, so not an ideal weight for this time of year, 400 plus would have been better. But it curled up into a tight ball and seemed ok. Have put it back out into the garden, so will keep a close eye out for it. Put out extra rations.

Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs
I have not seen a Hog for some time. They are still visiting as I found a fairly fresh CC in the front garden today.
Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs
Caught another hedgehog late last night. It was quite large so never bothered to weigh it. Probably a this years juvenile but an early one. It is the small ones i am more concerned about.
Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs
I saw few hedgehogs run over on the roads last few days , they mist be juveniles who have struggled to find food and could not go into hibernation yet. So desperately sad

I had a visit from a Hog last night. I didn't see it but a lovely CC was left. The mild weather obviously tempted it out.

I still have two that visit JS. No sign of hibernating. Is on the warm side though.
