Re: BLACKBIRDS
Last week or so, was admiring all the purple berries on the berberis. This evening not a berry left. Did see a blackbird now and again jumping up to grab a berry, and even a woodpigeon. Did not take long to strip it clean. Tell me about it.. a couple of weeks ago I was thinking I'd pick the cherrie...
Re: Rooks
There are now 3 babies, and I learned that rooks only have one clutch a year, laying four or five eggs. I'd never really learned much about them before. They're getting more used to me coming outside and flinging peanuts on to the lawn, Monkey comes to within about ten foot of me now, and when I sho...

Re: BUTTERFLIES
I wonder how unseasonably cool or wet weather affects butterflies and moths, you know when they emerge from the cocoon and have to stretch out their wings perfectly and all that? I'm often outside in the late evenings until around 1am, and haven't encountered any moths - there's usually a couple in ...

Re: BLACKBIRDS
We're the same. Sometimes we just have to open the curtains and there's a sweet little expectant face there.
They're very brave aren't they - and can get up to 7 soaked sultanas in a beak at once! The kids must be getting sugar rushes with all that sweet fruit being force fed to them.

Re: BUTTERFLIES
I've got a teeny buddleia with a couple of big flowers on, but it's had no takers. We don't get many butterflies here, I hoped a firm favourite might catch the attention of a few. It's been stupidly windy for the last 3 summers too, and the below average temperatures are pleasing neither man nor bea...
Re: Rooks
Oh no Willpar, that's a real shame. I hope the numbers pick up soon and it's just a natural cycle.
Rooks are so prehistoric looking aren't they? I'm very fond of this little family.

Re: BUTTERFLIES
Saw a meadow brown yesterday in the garden - first butterfly of the year!
Rooks
Monkey, the missus, young Rico, and baby Ronnie (in the gutter) - through the kitchen window so not great photos. Ronnie is the last born so is constantly squawking to be fed when they're outside scoffing peanuts, the neighbours must love me!
Re: STARLINGS
Egg, son of Eddie, has already learned how to get in the caged feeder, and through the wooden bars of the little 'house' which are intended for only sparrows. Only Eddie has ever done this until now. He must be so proud!
