Re: DRAGONFLIES

I am still waiting for my first Damselfly or Dragonfly in the garden this year. I don't get lots but this year, but I think is the worst year for a long time.

Re: BUTTERFLIES

I wonder how unseasonably cool or wet weather affects butterflies and moths, you know when they emerge from the cocoon and have to stretch out their wings perfectly and all that? I'm often outside in the late evenings until around 1am, and haven't encountered any moths - there's usually a couple in...

Re: Rooks

There are now 3 babies, and I learned that rooks only have one clutch a year, laying four or five eggs. I'd never really learned much about them before. They're getting more used to me coming outside and flinging peanuts on to the lawn, Monkey comes to within about ten foot of me now, and when I sh...

Re: BLACKBIRDS

Mine was waiting on the fence near my back door this morning. I showed him the bag of sultanas and he followed me over to the bird table. As soon as I had tipped a few he was down like a shot. :blackbird: :bolt:

Re: Ospreys

That's quite sad peregrine, its good that the chicks are given a chance to survive, but its sad that parents can't feed them :( Do you know why they are being relocated to Spain? I think the report suggests that getting the chicks to Spain will give them a better chance of completing the migration ...

Re: BLACKBIRDS

I have a very friendly blackbird couple coming to my garden, which I find very unusual because blackbirds have always been very nervous and would always fly away quickly if I appear. Not this couple. They worked out around what time I come out to put the food out and its become a routine that they ...

Re: BUTTERFLIES

I was pleasantly surprised today when I happened to be passing my buddleia to see a Painted Lady enjoying the nectar. The first this year.

Re: BUTTERFLIES

I've got a teeny buddleia with a couple of big flowers on, but it's had no takers. We don't get many butterflies here, I hoped a firm favourite might catch the attention of a few. It's been stupidly windy for the last 3 summers too, and the below average temperatures are pleasing neither man nor be...

Re: BUTTERFLIES

My Buddlia is now in full bloom but there are no butterflies to enjoy it. I think it has been a disastrous year for butterflies compared to what I've been getting in recent years. I think the northerly winds have prevented species such as Painted Lady and Red Admiral which are largely migrants comin...
