Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....

I had a GSW in the rowan tree this morning. The tree has some dead branches and he was knocking the bark off looking for insects. In the front garden I had 3 Jackdaws and 2 Magpies all at the same time. Strangely they were all doing the same thing which was looking for spiders and insects on my neig...

Brought in the cameras this morning to go through the clips. Looks like there is a late juvenile around. Camera picked it up on the 5th of this month.
Great news. Another mouth to feed!

Re: BUTTERFLIES

I am still getting a few butterflies in the garden. All of them whites both large and small. I have very few flowers left for them. The buddlia still has some and there a plenty on the Michaelmas Daisy.

Re: WOOD PIGEONS

Have a young wood pigeon coming into the hawthorn feeder at the moment. Got quite close to it this morning, a couple of feet in fact. I think young Woodies don't recognise us as a threat when they have just fledged. I have not seen one this year which is strange as I have Woodies in the garden all ...

Re: BLACKBIRDS

My Blackbirds have made a start on eating the Rowan berries. I had a very patchy crop this year and they won't last until winter starts properly.

Re: Your Garden Hedgehogs

Because of the heavy rain I shifted the hogs feed bowl back under my covered patio. It has not been there all summer but the hogs remembered where it use to be and came into the dry to get their food.

Re: BUTTERFLIES

I see that butterflies have had a poor year in the UK generally. This came as no surprise to me as I hardly saw any during what is usually the high season for them. I said at the time they were scarce and it had to be down to the poor summer we just had. Cool and wet weather is not butterfly weather.

I have not seen a blackbird in my garden for about a month. Today there were two.

Re: POND PLANTS

Water lilies are lovely plants requiring little maintenance. You are told to get the pot grown ones out of the pond from time to time to cut off excess growth. I had left this job for many years in my one pond and it had stopped flowering and was commanding far too much space. Today I dragged it out...

Re: BUTTERFLIES

I had two Red Admirals in the garden today. The ivy blossom is at it's best currently and they were attracted by that.
