Re: STARLINGS

I was trying to do a little work in the back garden today and the din from Sturklets in the neighbouring trees and bushes was almost unbearable. There must have been dozens of them. This of course is very good news and I'll keep on telling myself that. :dj: I keep telling myself that too  :dj:

Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....

Mother sparrow feeding four fledglings in the garden. First ones that i have seen. That's a fantastic news  I have a brand new woodie in my garden, looking very goofy as they do and still learning how to feed :) https://i.imgur.com/438F6ia.jpg And starlings brought another flock of fledglings...

Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....

https://i.imgur.com/1wRRCmo.jpg This little fellow is really small, if you deduct his tail he is about twice the size of a starling. Starlings are always pushing him around  His other 2 siblings are a bit bigger but he is really tiny. However, he is a clever chap. I saw him eating few mea...

Re: STARLINGS

After complaining about the lack of Sturklets recently my garden has suddenly become a hotspot for them. I think partly because of the bathing facilities but there has been an audible presence most of the time. I think I am benefitting from some late broods. I think you are having late broods alrig...

Re: WHAT I SAW TODAY.....

I had a definite sighting of a fledgling Robin. The first this year. :) That's so good to hear Jack, I haven't seen any this year, and even my adult Robin is not around much. I have no idea what happened  On another note ... while I was cleaning under the shrub where I throw some food for bi...

Re: Starling killers

Hello Bipman,
I've had starlings on my feeders regularly for few years now, and in different places, and I've never seen or heard anything like that. Usually they are the ones that are attacked. Very very strange.

Re: STARLINGS

It's reassuring to hear others have had good years which leaves me all the more puzzled as to why this year was a damp squib for Sturklets  Could be few reasons Jack, maybe the clutches were lost due to a new and successful predator in the area? I mean most of the time if one parent is kille...

Re: STARLINGS

I have to say my Sturklet experience this year was a short lived affair with less attendees than normal. I find that a little concerning. That's a shame Jack, and it is concerning :( . I must say I had more Sturklets this year than the last, but last year was the first in this property so the feede...
