The has been a quantum leap in blobs of spawn and there were at least five embracing couples

making plans to add some more. I've been getting frogs for twenty years but this is the first time we have gone from nothing to loads of frogs and spawn over the period of a couple of days. It is usual for the frog numbers to build up over four or five days before the first deposits of spawn are made. Having said that they are at least two weeks later than last year so perhaps there is no time to waste on the usual niceties.

It's shaping up to be a very odd year - some things change and yet some things remain the same. Beats me
Anyway, spawn is always very good news

Did you tell Billy where all his mates were ?? I think you should.
Meanwhile, in the other pond, that looks like quite an impressive mass. Could be a bumper year .....

I don't think that is the final amount. As you can see from the photo another pairing is looking like they want to leave a contribution. I may have to shift some of the tadpoles to the other pond which at present has no spawn at all as my pond with the new liner may not be able to support so many new occupants.
PS B-N-Ms will have to find his own way. It is only a short hop.

An eggcupful as an experiment would be interesting. If they all go gills up then possibly the refurbished pond needs a lid on it. Frog spawn is a very precious thing.

Five more pairings getting to grip with producing the next generation this morning. Plus BNM has gained a companion. Whether it's a soulmate remains to be seen.

I think spawn production may have peaked for this year. Only a couple of Frogs visible.
However danger for the spawn is lurking in the shape of Frost promised for Sunday night and possibly next week too..The last time this occurred was the Beast from the East. Tomorrow I shall have to fabricate some kind of cover out of cardboard in the hope of protecting the blobs.
